Types Of Deiiang Handheld Particle Counters

Eleven handheld models share one optical platform, so the choice comes down to sample volume and what the record has to prove: 0.1 L/min for isolators and glove ports, 2.83 L/min for point checks and monitoring rounds, 28.3 L/min when a room has to be classified, and printed or camera-backed evidence where an auditor signs the sheet.

VS

Standard 2.83 L/min handheld particle counter

Standard 2.83 L/min handheld

Micro-flow 0.1 L/min handheld

The micro-flow unit moves a tenth of a litre a minute, which at first sounds like a drawback and in the right place is the whole point. Sampling inside an isolator or through a glove port barely disturbs the air you are trying to measure, and the low inlet velocity keeps isokinetic error small at short range. The trade is time: a hundred litres takes about seventeen hours, which is why it is used for spot checks and trend work rather than formal classification.

Standard 2.83 L/min handheld

2.83 L/min is the volume most handhelds are built around, and it gives a usable reading in a few minutes with six size channels and an ISO class verdict on the same screen. Point checks, monitoring rounds and certification support all work at this flow, and the record carries location tags. For a Grade A zone where the probe has to sit next to open product, that extra air movement is what you have to justify.

Annex 1 rounds mean the probe goes where the product is. A handheld gets into the filling zone without moving a trolley through a Grade A airlock.

Bought the H200 for our filling hall. Two minutes a point, class shown on the screen, and the slip goes into the file. Nothing more to say, it does the job.

Andreas Keller

The H100 is the only thing we found that samples a glove port without pushing air around. Slow, yes, but that is the trade.

Priya Raghavan

Dropped mine on a steel floor in week two. Cracked the case, kept counting. Calibration held, which surprised me more than the drop.

Tom Whitfield

We run 40 points a week across three sites. The H230 has not been downloaded in months, the buffer just keeps taking it.

Magdalena Wójcik

Printer on the H220 is a bit loud in a quiet suite, but the auditor liked getting a signed sheet on the spot.

Jean-Luc Bertrand

Took the H300 for Grade B classification. One minute a point instead of five changed how we plan the shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is a handheld particle counter used for?

Point checks and monitoring rounds: a technician carries it to the sampling location, draws a known volume of air and reads the count against the class limit. It is also used for filter leak surveys, compressed gas testing and spot checks inside isolators.

Which flow rate should I choose, 0.1, 2.83 or 28.3 L/min?

0.1 L/min is for places where moving a lot of air would disturb the zone, such as glove ports. 2.83 L/min is the everyday choice for point checks and rounds. 28.3 L/min samples one cubic foot per minute, which makes ISO 14644-1 classification practical.

Can a handheld counter be used for ISO 14644-1 certification?

Yes, provided the sample volume and the number of points meet the standard and the instrument holds a current ISO 21501-4 calibration certificate. At 2.83 L/min each point takes about 21 minutes, so most certification work is done with the 28.3 L/min model.

How often does it need calibration?

Once a year is the normal interval, against polystyrene latex spheres and traceable to a national standard. If the unit is dropped or the flow looks wrong, send it in early rather than waiting for the anniversary.

What is the difference between the models with a printer and with a camera?

A printer produces a signed sheet at the sampling point, which suits GMP batch records. A camera stores a photo with each reading, which is more useful in deviation reports where you need to show what the area looked like at the time.

How long does the battery last during a survey?

Around six hours at full flow on the 28.3 L/min model and longer at 2.83 L/min. Cold rooms and full-flow classification shorten that, so plan a charge between buildings or carry a second pack.

How to choose Handheld Particle Counter?

1

Start With The Flow Rate

A 2.83 L/min handheld covers point checks and monitoring rounds. Go to 0.1 L/min near open product or inside an isolator, and to 28.3 L/min when a room has to be classified.

2

Check The Smallest Channel

Six channels from 0.3 μm is the useful minimum. If you work to a specification that counts 0.2 μm, confirm the optics actually resolve it rather than interpolating.

3

Decide What The Record Must Prove

A screen reading is not evidence. Ask whether you need a printed slip, an audit trail with operator ID, or a photo attached to the reading.

4

Battery And Weight

A full round can run to four hours. Check the quoted life at full flow, and hold the unit for a minute before buying: 1.6 kg feels different at shoulder height.

5

Display And Gloves

Operators wear nitrile or sterile gloves. A resistive screen will not respond to them, so test the touchscreen the way your team will use it.

6

Calibration And Certificate

Insist on an ISO 21501-4 certificate against PSL spheres, issued per unit, and ask what the annual turnaround is before you need it.

7

Sampling Accessories

An isokinetic probe belongs in the box, not on the options list. Add a high-pressure diffuser if you sample compressed gas, and spare inlet filters.
